Hi I have been a bit lazy lately and haven't been blogging. I took over a year off. I am getting old now. I am a Black Mouth Cur mix, but my black mouth is turning white now. My name is Joey and I am the blogger for Dogs in Brazil. I took over from Emmy when she went to the rainbow bridge. Emmy was much more productive than me. I have other priorities in life like Chicken and naps in the closet. I had much more energy when I was a young handsome guy. Don't get me wrong I am still handsome. Well! Mom and Dad are still rescuing dogs. It has been going on for 17 years now. I have seen so many dogs come and go. Many leave the country and I see pictures of them living in luxury some even have heated beds. Others have died of old age, or died due to the terrible state they were in when mom and dad found them sick on the streets. Mom and Dad do everything they can to save each one they find in trouble. There are 128 dogs here now. That makes Mom and Dad very busy people. They struggle to keep up financially and physically and Mom has been ill lately.
So what is new?  There many new dogs. Mom picked up an old guy that was limping badly with real bad teeth. Wonder if they make dentures for dogs because he certainly needs them. Many dogs have traveled abroad and are having fun. First this is Bailey the old dog that needs dentures. Street dogs eat a lot of the human trash to survive and clearly it's not good for our teeth. We chew on bones thrown out without any meat on them and grind our fangs down prematurely. It's a means of survival. I have been here since a puppy and have good teeth. Mom says dental work for dogs is highly expensive. there are many dogs here from the streets needing dental work. Mom would need thousands of dollars to sort out all the dogs with dental problems here. She doesn't even go to the dentist herself.

This is Gaia. She also has mouth problems. She was laying in the road for three days unable to eat because a car hit her and broke her jaw. She also hurt her leg. Mom and Dad picked her up and took her straight to the vet clinic for surgery. She has a mouth full of wire and a retainer of resin to hold it all together. She doesn't say much as she can't bark. She wags her tail a lot and I like her. Not as much as I like Gemma though. She gets special food as she can't chew. Here she is before they wired her up and after. We can't wait for her to be able to talk and tell us her story. Everyone here has a story to tell. We all came from the streets before we met Mom and Dad. .

Gaia may not be able to talk, but she is a happy girl always wiggling her butt and smiling especially when she sees me. She has good taste like Gemma  (My girl). Gemma loves me. We have been together many years now. That's Gemma below.

Mom and dad also picked up a mom and her puppy. They were abandoned in cold, rainy weather. They were hungry. The little puppy's ribs had begun to show. We have all known hunger here. Except for the pups born here when Mom and Dad rescued the three pregnant dogs. Hunger is a horrible feeling. I remember when I was very young wanting my mom's milk or just something to eat. I was lucky someone dumped me outside of Mom and Dad's house and they heard me crying.

This puppy still cries if she doesn't have her mom. They will be safe and fed now. There have been so many new dogs and so much has happened I can't tell you all as I would need to write a book and I am quite a lazy dog so I won't be doing that. I will be blogging again though and will tell the news as it happens. I will post pictures of the new dogs now. If anyone wants to know more about them then please send me a message and also mention how handsome I am. I last blogged in April 2017 and since then there have been many, many new dogs. I think somewhere around fifty something. There may be more but my math isn't too good.  I will post a picture of each one and some showing how they looked when they arrived. Mom says I must blog once a week in future or else no biscuits for me. I love biscuits!
Okay here are all the new dogs and some aren't here as they got adopted. Will tell you more about those as well. This blog will be a long blog but I need the biscuits.

The dog above is Clarke found abandoned with Marlene.

This is Marlene the day Mom and Dad picked them up. Marlene is now a house dog and Clark has been adopted and will travel soon. Below is Marley. He was completely knotted up with dread locks that is how he got his name.

Natalie (below) was abandoned with a chain around her neck. She was very frightened. She soon came around though.

Lottie (below) was abandoned near the shelter.

Heather was a tiny puppy that grew into a naughty dog. Abandoned near the shelter. She sits on the human's chairs and falls asleep with her head on the table. She chews the human's things. This morning it was a tube of toothpaste.

Iggy (below) was abandoned with a leg wound.

Lauren (below) had a huge tumor that was left untreated and her humans thought it best if she stayed here with us. Her tumor was removed.

Mack (below) was a tiny puppy and a very frightened puppy.

Max (below) he lived on the streets outside of the bakery. We were all so shocked that he was so fat. The humans had been throwing snacks to him all day. Problem was they were unhealthy snacks. He could hardly walk when he arrived. If all street dogs were as clever as Max they would all hangout at bakeries. His name should really have been Einstein.

This guy is Pete (below) abandoned near the shelter.

This guy is Ralph (below) he had a head wound.

Ringo (below) came in very thin.

Oliver another puppy came in us from near the local bakery (below)

Sybil  (below) was found lying in the ditch. She was hit by a car or a human and couldn't walk.

Tina (below) She was run over.

Truffles (below) doesn't get on well with anybody and was adopted twice and dumped again as other dogs always attack her. Nobody knows why she always gets attacked.

Zucchini (below) is Pumpkin and Kiwi's sister. He was adopted before Mom took in Pumpkin and Kiwi and then dumped a year later back on the streets.

Leo (below) got shot several times and Mom and Dad got him a new piece of bone for his shattered leg. Mom says he still has pellets in him. He has been adopted and will travel just as soon as he can.

Arthur (below) only has three legs. He got bitten by a spider and his human dumped him at the vet clinic and didn't come back. His leg was so bad it had to be amputated.

Austin (below) was run over and had a badly broken leg and hip.

Beanz and Rice (below) were unwanted puppies and have been adopted and will be traveling soon.

Darcy their sister (below) is staying here in the house with us.

Alana (below) was abandoned hungry and had mange

Basil (below) was left to die in a pool of blood after being run over.

Then Mom and Dad picked up three pregnant females in two months. Phoebe a Beagle had seven puppies. Sunday called Sunday as she was found on a Sunday and gave birth the following Tuesday. She had six puppies and Jasmine had five puppies. Mom and Dad worked very hard when all the puppies were young. They pooped a lot. Ate a lot and made a lot of noise. Here are the moms with their litters. Jasmine has since been adopted and I heard that she lived in luxury in Nevada

Below are her puppies which are all still here. We are all hoping they get adopted quickly as they make too much noise.

Phoebe had the most puppies she had seven.

Jasmine got adopted and was happy to leave the puppies behind her. She was the best Mom as she was far more patient than Sunday and Phoebe. Phoebe must have been exhausted with her seven she is only a small dog and her puppies were larger than her all trying to play bite on her at the same time. She was enormous when she arrived.  Mom let me watch her give birth. I always wondered where we dogs come from. Now I know.

Here is Phoebe happy to escape the seven little terrors.

The puppies just filled up every space Mom could find and dad had to rush to build kennels quickly before the grew too much.

I am supposed to cover all the news since my last blog.  I didn't do it because I am too tired now. I will be doing all the dogs that left since my last blog and then will stick to smaller blogs. Mom must surely give me some chicken for this huge blog. If you would like to help Mom and Dad look after us all please check out the Face Book page or Web site.

Joey's Busy Lifestyle by Joey.

Hello Peeps... so I am well and truly in the proverbial dog house as mom has just reminded me that I haven't written a blog for a while!! I am always busy. So here goes...

Busy Me!

It has been a very busy few months here - lots of visitors, new rescues, lots of vet trips and dogs being adopted...and some strange phenomena called 'Facebook live, which apparently was great success!!!'

Auntie Nicole and Uncle Curt came here and dad married them - is was SOOOOOO cool. A few of us house dogs attended the ceremony - Of course, I was dog of honour as I am just so damn good looking- especially with my super cute bandana. AND.... bless them, they didn't want any presents (even though I had saved them some chicken! –don’t tell mom where it is – it’s my emergency stash!) and matched all monetary donations. Mom and Dad were over the moon! And guess what, Mom wore a dress and looked drop-dead gorgeous…

Auntie Khaya came back to visit - love her as she always brings us goodies to munch on and I just know she has a soft spot for little old moi!.

Two lovely volunteers called Kelly and Karen came for the day from Rio and did lots of dog baths -not me though- I managed to escape that dark wet place by pretending to be busy – really think I will always be scared of the dark!

Auntie Loana and Uncle Costa went to Finland for a treat and met up with Auntie Raili and Savannah – now called Vanni. Mom said that Auntie Raili drove a long long way and Vanni was very tired at the end of the day!
As you know it’s all about bringing people and dogs together around the Globe and this was a great example. Vanni stole the show -she is such a babe magnet! – a great DIB doggy ambassador.

It's a bit over crowded in the house and there is always another four-legged on my shelf! - there are 20 of us in the house now so it’s quite a squeeze!

We sadly had to say goodbye to Reggie's when Auntie Nicole was here. She was desperately trying to save him and stayed up night after night looking after him. He fought very hard but didn’t have the strength to pull through and crawled into her case, left his heart there and went to Rainbow Bridge. We were all very sad as we thought he would pull through.

Mom and Dad are still trying to rescue Reggie's brother and sister and are slowly gaining their trust. They are still very wary though - hope they can be tempted to come back to doggy heaven before they get too sick.

There have been lots of vets trips - Sasha and Jo Jo will never be moms!. Molly still needs more surgeries and then there was that 'huge' lump on Daisy's head and on her sibling’s heads too! - she really did look like something out of ET! (even more than I did when I was a pup).

Nicholas still on 3 different sort of eye drops and Maggie, Harley, Luiza, Katie and Bogart on Mange meds, Peaches has tick disease and then poor old Maggie got an infection in her leg.

We all love Nicholas now...heard mom saying that he is a 'fully integrated house dog' - whatever that means! think it means that the others won't try to bit him on the bum! - I caught him stealing one of mom's shoes and hiding it in the banana tree - I didn't tell though as he has been through enough poor guy. Murphy (after a dodgy start) and Sasha are his favourites. He is just one big puppy and keeps play- biting us to play with him - I am far too grown-up for this type of tom-foolery!

I have heard that our recovery room is nearly complete - just hope that I never have to spend any time in it! Visitor accommodation is going well too...as far as I am concerned - visitors = treats!

Lots of dogs are being adopted and going to their new lives abroad which is great news - Luna went to Vancouver to live with a doggy friend.

Orwell has recently arrived in Texas to live with Penny - they are going to be ganging up on poor Skipper by speaking to each other in Brazilian doggy language even though he was there first!
Orwell

AND... not sure if you remember Lucky who tried to board a bus with a tourist. He went to live with a foster in Canada and has now been adopted.

There is serious competition in casa Dogs in Brazil :
1-      Chicken  - Bambi is a Chicken freak too - giving the master 'ME!' a run for my money!
2-      Resident clown title - I thought this was my accolade but Pumpkin fell asleep on the toilet!! I suspect he had a rough night on the town.

3-      AND there is competition for my shelf - Katie sees it as her bed Katie on my shelf -she is far too pretty to be left on the shelf! - get it?

Guges is still ok but poor mom often has to clean up his pooey bum. Sasha has a soft spot for him, pardon the pun! My poor Sam has had a stroke and mom and dad have spent lots of time rehabilitating her. She is slowly getting her mojo back. Daisy, another one of our golden oldies has now gone blind and poor Bowie is chewing on the foot that has two missing toes and has to wear a bootie- the indignity of it! Always poorly doggies here, which means lots of vets bills and mom worrying about paying all the costs.

Mom and dad rescued a poor doggy that was tied to a tree. She had had spay surgery and wasn’t wearing a cone of shame so she removed all her stitches. Astrid is doing ok now.

Have overheard mom say that our Kennel cleaner is ‘still missing in action’ - this just means that poor dad has to work much harder! Any of you lovelies out there fancy applying for the position

We have a Houdini here – Houdini (aptly named) has the accolade of being the first dog to escape our property! He was found quickly, as you can imagine, mom and dad were super relieved. Guess he was just a little scared and bolted as he didn’t realize that he had arrived in doggy heaven on earth!

I had a real shock the other day – as you know I sleep in the closet during the day and on mom's bed during the night. A naughty wasp flew into the closet and really scared me! I flew out and landed in mom’s arms just like Scooby doo landing in Shaggy's arms!

So, I think that is all now folks except I am saving the best for last!
Auntie Nicole has just given up her job and is going to be moving with Uncle to Curt to a farm in a country called America and helping us full time. We are all very excited about this so watch this space…

Making a difference one dog at a time…

Hello peeps – Joey here with my Pre-Christmas blog –have been cogitating what to talk out – so much has happened in the last month – some very, very, sad, but some happy things too…
Have heard that there are now 88 of us with 4 legs, one with three legs,  oh! and Gregory, that annoying little lizard! – clearly he thinks he is a DIB dog! mom said that is Gregory on top. I asked her what they were doing and she said she didn't know.

I have been feeling very sad as we all had to say goodbye to poor little Chester who was dying with Kidney failure – I cried a lot as it was all very sudden but hid it from mom and dad as knew they were so upset. I spent a lot of ‘reflective me’ time on my shelf under Mom’s desk...
Overhead Mom saying to Dad that she was very grateful that Chester’s voice was finally heard and he didn’t die in silence.

Good news that Nicholas is doing really really well but is still having eyedrops as he has something called an edema in his left eye – not really sure what that is – but he does seem to be milking it!
All the house dogs have accepted him except for my girl, grumpy Gemma, she is not good with new arrivals as it means less chicken scraps for her (and me ! – come to think of it).

Maggie is still recovering and mom still feels sick when she thinks of the vet bills to pay. Molly is still recovering from her surgery – poor things she still has another 3 surgeries to go. They are both so much braver than me! all the house dogs know that I get Scoobydoo scared at the slightest thing and run to mom for cover but they are polite and pretend not to notice!

Benny is still having his PT and hydrotherapy – must admit that I am a bit jealous of all the attention he gets and love his new braces! He is starting to walk better now. I shouldn't really be jealous as everyone tells me I have the most elegant legs! Benny is being adopted by the nice vet giving him PT in the pic next Tuesday.

I am going to have to be a big brave boy and say goodbye to some more or my friends soon– Potter, Savannah, and Lizzie as they have all found new homes. Mom is very happy about this and is very grateful to Auntie Nicole and Uncle Curt for helping with this.
AND! STOP PRESS - our paralympian 3 legged boy, now called Sugar Cane, is going to a new home - a fancy one with lots of other dogs and cats in AMERICA!

So, Abby (she found a new home this time last year)and Father Christmas would like to say a big thank you and Merry Christmas to you all.

I overheard ( I do have nosy streak!) Mom and Dad say that they are are so happy with progress this year - In August we had just over 7,000 'LIKES' and now we have 27,000!
Being just a dog (a very handsome one at that) I don't really know what 'likes' are but I would like to extend my doggy paw to say hello to all my new followers... I don't know about likes but I know about licks.
Will have to have a word in Mom's shell-like as I am still getting the same amount of CHICKEN! - just think, if my portion size increased by the same percentage, then I would be so fat  that I would be wobbly Joey and I definitely wouldn't have such elegant legs! Well it took me quite a while to write this and whilst I was doing it Mom and Dad saved seven more puppies.

Well I will be back soon. before Christmas hopefully.
